The Reader

Under cover

This book by Bernhard Schlink explores how the post-war generations should approach the generation that took part in, or witnessed, the atrocities of war. The burning of books was just many of the ways to impose power over the occupied population. However my book simply addresses the solitary, immersive and joyful experience that reading can be. The figure stands alone in a library enjoying the peace and quiet. I have made this piece of work twice; both slightly different.
