‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ (1901) is a crime novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It tells the story of the attempted murder of a cursed country squire, Sir Henry Baskerville. It is set in Devonshire, on the estate of the Baskervilles. The attempted murder may be inspired by the local folklore of the ‘Yeth Hound’, a diabolical supernatural hound. It incorporates several plots apart from the ‘curse’ story and the hidden plot discovered by Sherlock Holmes.
